“Do you know what’s COOALA?”

Stemming from the idea of getting more youths to interact with brands on social media, Mike Schwede from Switzerland, founded a new iPhone app called, COOALA (http://cooa.la/).  Along with his team of five, including his wife Barbara, they work to make COOALA a success. Fabian Burgy is the Creative Director, Sinan Yasargil is the Pioneering iPhone-Developer, Christian Roth is the MSC ETH in Computer Sciences & Business, Ben Stahli is the wild entrepreneur, and Barbara is Director of Communications. Their business may have started out small, but they just keep growing. Since launching the application earlier this year in January, it has caught the attention of several.

COOALA strives to cater to both customers’ and companies’ needs.  COOALA states, “Teens love brands, but 94% don’t like to interact with brands on social platforms. There’s too much noise! Brands reach only 5-20% of their fans due to Facebook’s Edge Rank.” So what if brands on Facebook changed their method of reaching fans? COOALA created a number of simple “Hot-or-Not” posts on Facebook and they generated over 823 fans in just ONE month! That’s a total engagement of 65%! Plus, can you believe that before they even launched, the COOALA app already had 2, 372 users? Here’s the breakdown of users: 1,464 from Facebook, 323 from Twitter, and 585 form Beta Registrations. One can only expect more users to come with this many during pre-launch.

Now the real question is, how can customers, especially the younger generations, be more informed about brands and how can brands promote themselves to more customers? Simply download COOALA, a FREE app from the iPhone app store, and you are seconds away from learning about thousands of brands. Maybe you heard of these brands before, but didn’t know what they were really about or maybe you never heard of them and later discover that you already love them! Once you download COOALA, it first asks you a number of, “What’s cooler?” questions in order to get to know your tastes and to help build a personal brand board.  Once you create your brand board, you will be able to “Play. Discover. Benefit.” Next, rate the brands and share what you think is cool with your friends. Finally, read about the brands, find out what deals and discounts they have. Sign up for party or event invitations that the brand is hosting. Then, just wait for those discounts, invitations, news, and notifications!

As for the brand companies, COOALA allows you to reach out to wider target markets and interact with younger generations via the monthly subscription service. Learn about other brands in various competitive fields, stay up-to-date on campaigns, statistics, deals, events, and more! By keeping up with brand rankings amongst users, you stay informed on which brand is trending and doing well on any given day. Currently in the fashion category, Louis Vuitton is in 1st place, “the coolest brand.”

From there, an ecosystem is formed; once you enter a brand’s profile, you can easily find links to YouTube, amazon.com, foursquare, Spotify, TopGear, Facebook, Twitter, and the brand’s own website to find further related products, or more information about the brand’s mission and offerings.
